KOTA KINABALU: The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) officially launched the first Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) team in Sabah yesterday.
The first batch consisted of 40 personnel headed by FRD public relations officer Mohamad Nor Amit after recently completing 120 hours of training in three major hospitals.
Head of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Emergency Department Prof. Dato Dr Abu Hassan Asaari Abdullah officiated at the event in the FRD headquarters at Jalan Lintas yesterday.
The EMRS was officially launched in Malaysia in 2006.
Mohamad when contacted yesterday said all the 40 EMRS personnel who completed a three-week first medical aid training were selected from all fire stations statewide.
They attended training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Sandakan Duchess of Kent Hospital and Tawau General Hospital.
It equips them with the proper first aid skill to give emergency assistance in a crisis.
“The EMRS unit is the first to reach an accident scene and will give first aid before victims are sent to the hospital. We hope to save more lives now that our men have the proper first aid training,” said Mohamad.
